Breast Ptosis

Breast Ptosis

What is Breast Lift?

Sagging of the breasts, which is an important part of the aesthetic appearance of women, may occur due to many reasons.

Breast sagging occurs after genetic reasons, congenital structural disorders, pregnancy, age-related sagging, weight gain and weight loss in a short time. In such cases, breast lift surgeries, defined as mastopexy, appear as an effective solution.

Breast lift surgeries performed by plastic surgeons provide an aesthetic appearance to women who have this problem.

Why Do Breasts Sagging?

Weight changes in a short time, not wearing a bra, pregnancy, weight gain, aging, and the effect of gravity cause breast sagging in women.

Excessive smoking also causes breast sagging, especially since it causes loosening of the connective tissue in the breasts. Regardless of the reason, it is possible to have straighter and fuller breasts with breast lift surgery.

Who Can Have Breast Lift Surgery?

Breast lift surgery can be applied to all women who have sagging breasts and have no health problems, have given birth or not.

Since erect and full breasts increase the self-confidence of women, breast lift operations have started to be performed more frequently. With breast lift surgery, more social and self-confident women emerge.

Breast sagging is detected by checking the nipple and under-breast line.

From What Age Can Breast Lift Surgery Be Performed?

By the age of 18, 90% of the breast volume of an adult woman has been reached. For this reason, it will be sufficient to be over the age of 18 for the breast lift operation and not have any health disabilities for the operation. There is no upper age limit for this application.

Classification of Breast Prolapse

According to the relationship between the nipple and the lower line of the breast, breast sagging can be classified into 4 different types as mild, moderate, severe and false ptosis.

In mild breast sagging, they are sagging in which the nipple goes 1 cm below the lower line of the breast. In cases where the nipple is 1 to 3 cm below the lower line of the breast, it is defined as moderate sagging.

If the nipple is 3 cm or more below the lower line of the breast, it is defined as severe breast sagging.

False sagging (ptosis) refers to the situations where the tissues in the lower part of the breast droop below the breast line, although the nipple is above the lower line of the breast.

Breast lift surgeries are performed successfully against all these breast sagging situations.

Breast Lift Surgery Techniques

Although it is thought to be possible with sports, sports do not have any effect on the erection of the breast. It is possible to have tighter and more shaped breasts by performing a breast lift operation on a sagging breast.

Breast lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia, whether it is combined with the prosthesis or not combined with the prosthesis.

If the patient who will undergo a breast lift has breast sagging and large breast complaints, breast reduction is performed at the same time, and if there is a small breast complaint, breast augmentation is performed at the same time.

In the pre-operative examination, conditions such as skin quality and nipple position are evaluated. Then, the technique to be applied, the breast tissue to be removed or the size of the breast prosthesis to be placed are decided.

When the use of prosthesis is needed in the lifting process, the operation takes approximately 2-2.5 hours, and when it is performed without using the prosthesis, it takes 3-3.5 hours depending on the level of sagging in the breast.

In breast lift surgeries, the excess skin is removed from the breast, the sagging breast tissue is shaped and recovered, and the nipple is placed where it should be. If it is desired to reduce the breast during these procedures, the breast tissue can be removed or a breast prosthesis can be placed to provide volume.

The severity of the sagging determines how the incision in the breast will be. In mild breast sagging, the problem can be corrected with a circular incision made from the breast round.

In moderate breast sagging, another vertical incision is made in addition to the circular incision in the breast circle.

In severe breast sagging, it may be necessary to add a third incision made on the lower line of the breast to the first two incisions (inverted T incision). In cases where a prosthesis is used, less skin is removed and the incisions are shorter as the breast is voluminous.

Breast Lift Surgery Recovery Process

One of the issues that many patients wonder about is the recovery process after the breast lift operation. You will be discharged from the hospital the next morning after being followed up in the hospital for 1 night after the operation.

Breast lift is generally an operation with very little pain. Although it differs from person to person in the first 2 days, there may be some pain.

In such cases, you can easily overcome this process by using oral painkillers. It is possible to return to your normal social life 5 days after the breast lift operation, provided that you pay attention to the bumps.

In the case of silicone use, edema may occur in the first week, but then this edema begins to decrease.

After breast lift surgery, bruising may sometimes occur around the breast, but this situation disappears by itself within a few weeks.

Preparation for Breast Lift Operation

After deciding on breast operation, it is best to apply to a plastic surgeon for examination. During the examination, the most suitable operation for you is determined. In the meantime, you should clearly and clearly convey to your doctor what you want and your expectations from the operation.

Before the operation, all patients are asked to have mammography and ultrasonography.

If there is any medication you have used before the operation, you must inform your doctor about it and strictly follow the advice he will give you.

It is important that you stay away from blood thinners, food supplements and foods before the operation. In addition, if you use alcohol and cigarettes, you need to stop 15 days before.

Can Breast Lift and Breast Augmentation Be Done Together?

If there is very little breast tissue or if the breasts are desired to be larger than they are, breast lift and breast prosthesis surgery can be combined.

Use of Protective Bras After Breast Lift

It is recommended to use a front-opening surgical bra for approximately 1 month after breast lift surgery. The principle of using this bra is less edema and passes faster.

It also provides support to both breast tissues and sutures and prevents excessive load on the breast tissue. Thanks to this support, better formation of surgical scars and more successful operation are ensured.

You can use a bra with the features you want approximately 3 months after the operation.
